PRINCE 2 ist eine Methode fürs Projektmanagement, das vom britischen Office of Government Commerce (OGC) herausgegeben, empfohlen und weiterentwickelt wird. Das Akronym “PRINCE” steht für “PRojects IN a Controlled Environment”. Die Vorgängerinstitution des OGC, die Central Computer and Communications Agency (CCTA) führte 1989 “PRINCE” als Regierungsstandard für IT-Projekte ein. Nach der Weiterentwicklung durch verschiedene private und öffentliche Organisationen wurde 1996 PRINCE 2 veröffentlicht.

Das OGC beschreibt und pflegt die “Best Practices” im kaufmännischen Bereich der britischen Regierung. Zu diesen gehören neben PRINCE 2 auch ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library), M_o_R (Management of Risk) und MSP (Managing Successful Programmes).
